Psycho-Physiology

This course will provide information about the brain-body connection, nervous system structure, neuro-anatomy, neurotransmitter and receptor function, and drug class/classification effects. Open discussion will help the participant understand the impact and importance of psychoactive substance (legal/illegal) on both the brain and the body. Day two of the course will focus on medication assisted treatment and efficacy of current medications for treatment of substance use disorders.

Ethics


This course will introduce participants to various codes of ethics with focus on the behavioral health/substance use code. The issue of professional boundaries will be covered in depth. Applied exercises and discussion will assist participants in practicing identification of potential ethical issues in providing client services.

Confidentiality


This course will provide information of the federal requirements of 42 CFR part 2, and HIPAA regarding client confidentiality and protection of client confidential information in behavioral health counseling. Participants will discuss handling various confidential issues that may rise in the behavioral health field.
